The New Wine Diet: How Adding Wine to Your Meal Could Also Add Years to Your Life

Monday, December 14th, 2009

You like to look and feel great-and you love your glass of red wine at dinner-but conventional diet gurus say you can’t have both.

How can you rationalize keeping the wine when you want be healthy?

If you think that you have a tough decision to make, then think again, because most diet plans don’t take into account all of the latest facts.

More and more studies are showing that although there are about 120 calories in a six-ounce glass of red wine, you should not stop having wine at dinner, because there are too many significant long-term health benefits and they outweigh the mere calorie intake.

In fact, wine might even be considered the new health drink.

For example, heart disease is the number one killer in the US and clinical studies have proven that, in moderation, men can lower the risk of heart disease by 50% by drinking two glasses of red wine a day. And women can reduce their risk by almost 30%, by drinking one glass of red wine a day.

Another top killer is cancer. Because red wine contains antioxidants, which scavenge destructive free-radicals that cause cellular damage, drinking wine in moderation will help prevent certain types of cancer such as prostate, colon and skin cancer.

Wine also helps our body to excrete excess sodium, so red wine acts like a diuretic, which lowers our blood pressure.

And in recent years, research studies have trumpeted a growing list of health problems that red wine can help fight such as arthritis, cataracts and kidney dysfunction. And, a new study in mice holds out hope for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

If this list doesn’t convince you that red wine should remain on your table at dinner and be long term part of your life, then check this out-wine helps reduce stress and digestive problems.

So, if you are a busy person and live life in high gear (as so many of us often do), then its recommended you enjoy at least one glass of wine with your meal, because wine relaxes us (including our digestive muscles). And we all know that digestive problems and high stress levels are the cause of innumerable Health problems.

Now that you’re convinced that keeping wine at dinner is a good idea, you probably want to know; “Are all wines equally ‘healthy’?”

And the answer is NO. Red wines in general contain more antioxidants than white wine (and all other alcoholic drinks as a matter of fact).

And, even among red wines there are those that will do you more good. Specifically, red wines that improve with age, which means French Bordeaux, premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir as well as Merlot and Malbec.

It’s been shown that red grapes grown in higher altitude and cooler climates (like Chile, Argentina, some parts of California, Oregon, and in New York’s Finger Lakes) have more antioxidants than grapes grown in warmer climes on valley floors.

There are two reasons for this. First, the production of antioxidants are stimulated by ultraviolet light, which are more intense at higher altitudes. Secondly, in cooler climates, grapes ripen more slowly and therefore tend to be harvested later, which allows for a greater concentration of antioxidants (and better flavors too).

In summary, the decision is easy. Keep the wine and get rid of some other calorie source, because it couldn’t possible come close to the health benefits of a glass of a good red wine.

So enjoy your wine at dinner and let’s toast “To Good Wine and Healthy Pleasure!!!”

Tips for Collecting Wine

Monday, December 14th, 2009

The senses and pleasures that wine can bring to anyone are indescribable. No Wonder wine is usually saved for special occasions and celebrations. Unfortunately, the high regard for this special drink alienates many people. Despite the growing popularity of wine collecting many people are still afraid to keep more than a few bottles thinking that it is a complicated endeavor reserved for connoisseurs. However in reality, wine collecting isn’t that complicated when you know these crucial tips for keeping wine:

1. Wine is cheaper when bought by bulk, so it is good to buy by the case; after all, having just a few bottles would hinder you from savoring wine’s pleasures regularly.

2. The rule that wine becomes better with age is not really an all-encompassing law, there are wines meant to be kept for long times while there are those meant to be drank around the time they are bought. Fortunately the rule is not really that hard. Table wines are good to drink around the year they are released, white ones can be last around two years, red ones last for about five years. Vintage wines can be stored up to 10 or even 20 years.

3. Wines should be kept in cooler temperatures: around 45 to 60 degrees F for white wines and 50 to 65 degrees for red wines. The best place would be in the basement where sunlight can be kept away. The refrigerator is somewhat cold but if there is no other option, it can be a good substitute. There are also refrigerators that are specifically designed for storing wines, these are good investments.

4. Bottles should be stored on their sides, keeping the wine in contact with the cork.

5. It is helpful to put ID tags on the necks of the bottles to make it easy to know which wine is which without disturbing their positions. It is best to keep wines of the same vintage together for easy reference.

6. Wines that are bound to be used more often should be kept near the storage door and those for special occasions should be stored deeper.

7. It is good to keep an inventory of the wines to ensure proper keeping of supplies.

8. Befriending one’s wine supplier is a good way to always get the best wines for the lowest costs. Wine dealers know more about wines, and they are good source for tips and tricks about wine collecting.

The joys of wine collecting are truly remarkable when you know important facts about wines.

The Wine Regions of Australia

Monday, December 14th, 2009

The first vineyards in Australia were planted in the late 1700’s, and during the 1800’s the wine regions of Australia began to be established. However, it is only recently that the country has become recognized as a leader in the production of world-class wines. Currently the fourth largest exporter of wine in the world, Australia has defined and secured its niche in the global wine production market. The success enjoyed by the Australian wine producers can be contributed to a system which was put in place by law in 1993 known as the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Act. This act helped establish the wine regions of Australia and gave the regions the legitimacy they deserved.

There are approximately 62 designated wine regions and over 1000 wineries throughout Australia. These regions cover approximately 420,000 acres. Under the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Act, geographic indicators were created to regulate Australia’s wine production processes. There are approximately 103 geographic indicators, and these indicators are applicable to wine producing zones, regions and sub-regions. Not only are these geographic indicators important to wine production, but they also play an important role in the global and local Marketing of Australian produced wines. Since land, soil and climate along with other factors play an integral role in determining the flavor and aroma of wine, this system that regulates wine production helps ensure the regional distinctiveness of the wines produced remains unadulterated and pure.

Australia is divided into wine zones, regions and sub-regions. A zone is simply an area of land, such as New South Wales. A region is defined as being distinct from surrounding regions, and a sub-region is defined as being distinct from the region in which it is located. The requirements that have to be met in order to be labeled as a wine region or sub-region includes having a specified number of independently owned vineyards on a specified number of acres with a specified amount of grapes produced annually. These requirements are part of the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Act.

The wine zones of Australia include: New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia. There are several regions within each of these zones and include such regions as: Hunter Valley (New South Wales); Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, and Eden Valley (South Australia); Granite Belt (Queensland); Pipers River (Tasmania); Yarra Valley, Alpine Valleys, Grampians (Victoria); Swan Valley, Margaret River (Western Australia). An example of a sub-region within a region includes Upper Hunter and Lower Hunter within the Hunter Valley. Much of the wine produced comes from the South Australia regions. In general, more wine is produced in warmer climates, but premium wines are produced in cooler climates.

Many varieties of wines are produced in Australia, and the type of wine produced is specific to a region. For example, the Barossa Valley is well-known for its Shiraz, Merlot, Riesling and Semillon varieties. Hunter Valley is renowned for its Semillon, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Verdelho, while Yarra Valley produces Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet.

Wood Wine Racks are Very Modular

Monday, December 14th, 2009

When choosing the type of wine rack you need to consider the following, do you want a freestanding, wall mounted or table top wine rack. For example, one popular choice for wine racks is steel, since this material can be heated and made into beautiful artistic pieces. Wine racks can be made out of several materials. Today you can find any type of wine rack on the internet there are tower, table and wall mounted wine racks.

You can use tall wine racks and great a bar, the way to do this is to place the racks on either side and place a countertop across them. Many people use wood wine racks because these are the best for a large collection of wine and are relatively cheap. Temperature-controlled, freestanding wine racks are a perfect storage system, though they are more expensive than a simple wine rack in a cool spot. When installing a wine rack many people turn to a baker’s style of rack because it puts to good use the extra shelving, there is more storage and there is a work center. Storage racks allow you to organize your wine collection and keep it safe and sound.

Wood is hardy and durable. In addition, it might have mismatched wood grains, which would show if stained. Simple wood racks are available to attach underneath a kitchen cabinet. You can make your selection from pieces made from all types of finished wood and wrought iron, or a combination of materials.

Many of the metal wine racks today combine artistic art with functionality; some have circles, spirals and many other unique designs. Using a metal wine rack allows the wine collector to add artwork and style, while wooden racks are built for functionality. It is important when purchasing wrought iron wine racks that you buy one that is preassembled. Wrought iron wine racks are made to last. Stainless steel wine racks are more moderately priced than wrought iron wine racks, for example, although the latter have become very popular as well.

Wine bottles themselves are elegant and beautiful to look at, and the right wine rack can really add to the visual appreciation of your wine bottles as they await their opening day, whether in a cellar — or on display in your kitchen or living room. Many home owners who keep a wine collection do not have as many bottles as a commercial establishment. Many of the wine racks are designed for everyday use where the wine aficionado is able to retrieve the wine for everyday use. Metal wine racks can be used to store wine bottles but metal wine racks are not as flexible as wood wine racks, with wood racks you are able to adapt them and make different sizes to save space.

There are some wine rack that are able to be divided into separate cabinets, the ability to divide is great because some wines need cooler temperatures while other types of wines do not. Find a spot in your house that stays about the same cool temperature year-round. When choosing where to store your wine make sure you get a suitable wine rack where you are able to control the temperature and the humidity so the wine does not get ruined.

The Amazing Versatality of Wine

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Want your dinner to be supremely festive? Then, instead of the still wines, offer a choice of Champagne and Sparkling Burgundy. An extra fillip, to backtrack a course or two, is to serve a special wine with the soup. This presents no problem: the wine that goes with any soup-so well, indeed, that the best canned soups already contain some-is Sherry.

When it comes to dessert, the choice is also easy, because most desserts are sweet, and so are dessert wines such as Port, Tokay, Muscatel, Cream Sherry, and the various berry wines. If you happen to encounter an especially delicious, extra-sweet Sauterne, you will enjoy that with dessert, too.

The members of my Family like assorted cheeses at the end of a meal. We find that some of our guests enjoy a hearty dry red wine such as Cabernet Franc (http://www.wineaccess.com/wine/grape/Cabernet%20Franc/) as the accompaniment, while others prefer red Port. Moving on to the bridge table, which also gets exercise some afternoons, there are many wines to sip between bids.

Cool White Port, Cream Sherry, the sweet Concord and berry wines, and those flavored specialties already mentioned are all especially popular here. A mixture of Sauvignon Blanc (http://www.wineaccess.com/wine/grape/Sauvignon%20Blanc/) and lemon juice became the standard afternoon bridge drink in one California suburban community a few years back.

For guests who just drop in casually, afternoon or evening, the bridge-table beverages will also do. In hot, stuffy summer weather, however, serve them either chilled Rose or a Wine Cooler. The latter can be anything you feel like mixing, from the simple spritzer (white wine and seltzer) to wine lemonade (lemonade with red wine or Rose added), to the various wine punches that you usually can pick up at your beverage store.

In recent years many people have discovered that any wine can be mixed with any kind of sweet soda pop (especially the lemon-flavored ones) and served as a delicious light highball. Wine for the barbecue is easily chosen. Again it is Rose or any red dinner wine. If you prefer to serve white wine with those sizzling, charcoal-broiled chickens, bring out a tub of ice to keep the bottles well chilled in hot weather.

The amazing versatility of wine extends to cold winter nights also. A traditional warmer-upper in the ski country is hot mulled wine: sweetened red wine such as Grenache or Pinot Noir spiced with cloves and lemon peel, warmed and served with cinnamon sticks. Also available are hot buttered wine, Sherry Tom and Jerry, and others for this purpose.

How about quantity punches for parties? The best known, of course, is Champagne Punch. But here we must protest; there can be no excuse for wasting good Champagne in a mixture where this effervescent wine loses its identity and where bubbles can be gotten much more cheaply from sparkling water.

Use still wines to mix the punch; then add club soda, and finally a single bottle of Champagne for the use of its glamorous name. Punch recipes, with ingredients such as sherbets, frozen concentrates, canned juices, and fresh fruits, are available by the score.

Getting a Wine Cooler

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Wine coolers are the best for the aging solutions of wines. Aside from sustaining the needed light exposure, temperature, and humidity, they are also very essential in the expansion of your wine collection.

There are many wine coolers available on the market. You may consider purchasing a large cooler or a refrigerator if you are into wine collecting. You may even set up a large cooler to ensure more space for your age-worthy wines.

Coolers come in different sizes. You may find coolers that can hold hundreds of bottles and cases. Manufacturers of coolers always think that there is the possibility that a normal collector may end up as a serious wine collector. For a serious collector, it is important to find the latest available wine coolers.

Countertop wine cellars are accessible in storing bulk wines. If you have enough space available in the kitchen or in your room, there are many wine shelving options you can choose from. You may customize your storing and aging room as well as your coolers with a variety of wine racks and accessories.

Space can be an issue for many collectors. They find it difficult to find the right coolers that will fit to the design and space of the storage place. It is advisable to purchase a stainless steel refrigerator if all your appliances in the kitchen are all stainless. They can provide the place with order and great fusion of styles and functions.

Wine refrigerators are very effective to special wine bottles that are used for aging wines. Collectors who live in places with hot and cold climates may find it hard to sustain the needed temperature. A wine refrigerator can take care of these problems. It is also capable of shielding your wines from light exposure and humidity swings.

Some wine fridges may be too expensive. Some are priced $300 at Costco. You may find cheaper wine coolers for $150, but it can only store 34 wine bottles. For those who would like to find a remedy for their problems with space and budget may convert their mini refrigerator to a wine cooler.

However, you may encounter problems of temperature sustainability because mini fridges tend to get too cold and are mostly used in freezing and not for cooling. Others adjust the setting of the thermostat to get the temperature just enough to cool the wines. You may use an appliance timer or a thermometer to create your own cycle of temperature on the refrigerator according to the desired cooling for the bottles.

Watching Television With Family

Watching Television with family: A Sociological Analysis(with respect to India)

Explanation of Media

With the passage of time media has become the base of our society. It had been helping us by providing useful information relating to politics, soaps, movies day to day life affairs, tragedies, historical materials, geographical knowledge, temperature of places , notification about events, synopsis of share market etc. It had been providing us information of the above mentioned types through the medium of T.V, newspapers, internet spontaneously without any break, In the last 50 years we had seen that the media influence has grown exponentially with the advance of technology, first there was the telegraph, then the radio, the newspaper, magazines, television and now the internet.

Then we must that we live in a society that depends on information and communication to keep moving in the right direction and do our daily activities like work, entertainment, health care, education, personal relationships, Traveling and anything else that we have to do.

A common person in the city usually wakes up checks the T.V news or newspaper, goes to work, makes a few phone calls, eats with their family when possible and makes his decisions based on the information that he has either from their co workers, news, T.V, friends, family, financial reports, etc.

What we need to be aware is that most of our decisions, beliefs and values are based on what we know for a fact, our assumptions and our own experience. In our work we usually know what we have to do based on our experience and studies, however on our daily lives we rely on the media to get the current news and facts about what is important and what we should be aware of.

We have put our trust on the media as an authority to give us news, entertainment and education. However, the influence of mass media on our kids, teenagers and society is so big that we should know how it really works. But in the past and now also T.V is one of the medium which had been accepted the most in general public as a source of media.

Evolution of Television

The word T.V had came from the full meaning television. The first demonstration of T.V was invented by John Logie Baird in Hastings, England in 1923. But the first concept of the T.V was a sketch done by a 14-year-old farm boy named Philo T. Farnsworth in 1922. On September 7, 1927, he finally created a television system that could not only display, but transmit signals between separate rooms. But the actual evolution of television can be observed from the fossils found in American garbage dumps clearly show the evolution of the radio into the television set. Layers of fossil garbage from the WWI era (10 million years ago) contain fragments of radios that use vacuum tubes. The first televisions appear in the WWII layer (8 million years ago) that lies immediately above the WWI layer. The components in these early television sets are nearly identical with those in the WWI radios, so the radio clearly evolved into the television. Both the radio and television show signs of further evolution, with transistors replacing tubes in later models. Radios evolved into televisions through a process of random mutations and natural selection , Over a period of 2 million years, the radio gradually evolved into a television set. Although the transitional forms have never been discovered, but after a detail analysis it was found that One day, on a whim, a worker decided to add a picture tube to the radio. The picture tube didn’t actually do anything, because there weren’t any horizontal or vertical deflection circuits yet, but the little white dot in the center of the screen impressed the inspector so much that he changed the plans so that all future radios would have picture tubes. Some years later, another worker added deflection circuitry to make the little dot move across the screen from left to right and top to bottom. Since this was much more fun to look at, it was incorporated into the plans. Of course it cost more to build radios this way, but for some reason the moving light spot added some survival benefit in the electronics market. Since consumers would not buy a radio without a moving dot, all competing radios were built this way.

And at exactly the same time, somebody at a radio station decided to hook a camera up to the transmitter, instead of a microphone, just to see what would happen. The image was broadcast from the radio station to the television set, and the broadcast industry was born and like this evolution of television takes place.

Relationship of T.V With Family In The Early Days:

After the evolution of T.V we had seen that in the earlier days the scope of television was not so wide because one of the reason was that at that time most of the families does not get the chance of buying T.V because of high installation charges , and another reason was that after having install also by some families then also we get to see that the channels in T.V was not so vast , as there were only one or two channels which family members usually see together ,and at that time the programmes in T.V was basically no “A GRADED” soaps, movies, but there was cultural shows like dance show like Odissi ,baratnatyam, kucipuddi , and then there was shows like “chandrakanta , bikram betal , Mahabharata , Ramayana , yeh mera circus hai , ardhangini , jai hanuman, DD news” and also movies which composed of family relations and so these type of serials and movies was basically watch by all ( grand parents , father , mother, children ) and by watching these kinds of things most of the families members had not suffered like this days but had gained knowledge about our history and culture which had helped them to follow the social norms, behavior, values of the society and by following these things family members mainly the young members had learned certain things like how to give respect to elders, , how to talked with elders , then they have also learned how to give respect to teachers in school and as at that time there was no stuffs like violence ,pornography shown on T.V so the family members were not badly effect like this days happening . Many well known researchers had found that at the early period as the scope of T.V was very much less so the impact of the T.V was very less but its impact was mostly on welfare of family by providing them useful information about their necessity like news, Sports, religious information ,cultural programmes , education knowledge based programmes , and musical shows and programmes

Relationship of T.V With Family In The Present Days:

In the earlier period we have seen that the scope and relationship of T.V with family was not so large but now with the passage of time it was seen that the cost of T.V have reduced a lot and therefore a home without a television was not found anymore.

And now with the introduction of cable lines and dish TV , the scope of T.V had widen itself very much , and therefore through the T.V the family members can see different types of channels like religious channel, adventures channel, sports channel , music channel, history channel , movie channel , news channel , information channel and cartoon channel and so the family members can see the channel whatever they like to see .and also we had taken a note that these days most of the people are devoting most of their time in T.V , like the young ones are devoting their time on cartoon channels and the teenagers are devoting their time on fashion channels ,music channels and video songs channels and also we had taken a note that the elders members in the families are devoting their time in daily soaps like “kyunki shaas bhi kabhi bahu thi , kasauti zindagi ki , left right left , kkusum , heena , office office , ek larki mahole me rahne oli , kahani ghar ghar ki and kahi kisi roz” and by seeing these things the elder family members are seeing and learning the trend from the T.V and copying and using these trends as their own lifestyle . we had also taken a note that with the introduction of new channel like sony , star plus , zee t.v family members are influencing day by day , at first we used to see that family members usually see the T.V together but nowadays the family members are seeing television ingroups and also in separate rooms because in order not to see those kinds of stuffs with elders , now a days the relationship of television had gone so vast that pornography are wide been seen in television and which results in destruction of memory of the family members and as result they cannot control themselves and causing them to rape women and girls and so we can hold T.V as one of the culprits for rape .

We had also seen that lots of families are being breaking up to smaller families from the joint families by seeing television soaps , and we had seen also that lots of children are not scoring well in exams because most of the time these children are making a bond relationship with T.V channels cartoons and we had also seen these days teenagers are behaving very badly with the elders ones by copying the behavior made by dramatizing in T.V .We had also seen that the children used to gets their eyes badly effect by seeing T.V for longer hours . Then we had also seen that grand parents are not being served well by the house wives because due to immense relationship with the T.V. they forgot to serve the grant parents.

Then in the present days we had also seen that the relationship of T.V had got so broaden up with the family members that each and every offices are keeping T.V in their blocks .Then we had also taken a note that the advertisement agency are putting their advertisement on T.V and through this the family members are getting information about latest trends, latest products, and making a change in family relationship by those products .Then we had also seen that by watching the daily soaps in T.V , the relationship with T.V gets so developed that the family members sometimes felt to cry by watching the work of the dramatician in T.V soaps and also sometimes they became very harsh by seeing the creature like behavior made by the dramaticians in T.V.

Relationship of T.V In High Class Society:

We had also observed that the relationship of family with T.V also varies from class to class , we had seen that in high class families the relationship was much more broader than in middle class families , here the scope of T.V was so much that the each rooms here are composed with T.V and then each family members are having different tastes for which they are following different channels like the elder ones are mostly busy with share market information, market turnover information mainly with the fall and rise in prices and also the elder female members by seeing T.V gets about market information and therefore they go to market for shopping daily for following the new trends in the world . Then we had also found that in these class party is mainly a part for their living and so all the family members always keep a watch in the T.V for upcoming parties and events. Then we had also found that children in these class are being mostly neglected by their elders because they are mostly busy in their work and so these children make a good relationship with the T.V and devote most of their time on .TV mainly on cartoons , pornography films and which in return pushed them to become a social evil for th society and also cause a bad effect for their studies.

Relationship of T.V In Middle / Low Class Society:

Here in these society the relationship and scope of T.V was not wider as comparison to the high class society , as the number of T.V was not so much in these class , and so we can see the family members usually see the T.V in common and the privacy of seeing the T.V easily not found in these class, here we can also found that due to the low income of the family members , usually they don’t get chance of buying things even though they follow the T.V and so we can see influence by T.V in these class is not good.

Here due to low number of T.V in these class the children usually not get the chance of seeing the cartoons, pornography films separately so the relationship does not get so much developed as it developed in the above mentioned society , so the damaged caused by the T.V on the children is not there and so there is no influence over the studies of the children here.

Positive Gains Derived From T.V :

Though in the present days the relationship of television with the family had been vast and created lots of problems in present day life of the families still it had helped and gave the families in many ways and they are as follows :

1. by making the relationship with T.V the family members like the women’s can learn the process of making new food dishes which they can prefer for their lunch ,breakfast and dinner.

2. by making relationship with T.V the family members can easily tour the world .

3. by making relationship with T.V the children in the families can learnt lots of things , which in return can help them for their general knowledge studies and can also helped to participate in debates, and can also helped them to make their article .

4. by making relationship with T.V the family members can see live cricket matches by sitting in home through T.V

5. by making relationship with T.V the family members can see live operation in hospital through T.V.

6. by making relationship with T.V the family members can advertise on it and can derive gains for their business .

7. by making relationship with T.V the family members can obtain share market information.

8. by making relationship with T.V the family members can participate in competition on going topics and hence can achieve awards in respective fields shown on T.V.

9. by making relationship with T.V the family members can hear and see news from the whole globe through the medium of media.

10. by making relationship with T.V the family members can make themselves aware of the dates of polio vaccines and also the desired place at which the vaccination programmes will held.

Major Impacts of T.V:

1. Impact on Kids

Television is one of the most prevalent Media influences in kids’ lives. According to Kids’ Take on Media, a survey conducted in 2003 by the Canadian Teachers’ Federation, watching TV is a daily pastime for 75 percent of Canadian children, both boys and girls from Grade 3 to Grade 10, then how much impact TV has on children depends on many factors like : how much they watch, their age and personality, whether they watch alone or with adults, and whether their parents talk with them about what they see on TV. So to minimize the potential negative effects of television, it’s important to understand what the impact of television can be on children. Then over the past two decades, hundreds of studies have examined how violent programming on TV affects children and young people, While a direct “cause and effect” link is difficult to establish, there is a growing consensus that some children may be vulnerable to violent images and messages. Researchers have identified potential responses to media i.e. : Increased fear—also known as the “mean and scary world” syndrome Children, particularly girls, are much more likely than adults to be portrayed as victims of violence on TV, and this can make them more afraid of the world around them. Some of the most violent TV shows are children’s cartoons, in which violence is portrayed as humorous—and realistic consequences of violence are seldom shown. This can be especially true of young children, who are more likely to exhibit aggressive Behaviour after viewing violent TV shows or movies.

The Role of Family and Friends in Your Internet Business

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Most affiliate programs will try and get you to start off your new business by signing up your “Inner Circle” or some “Circle Of  Influence”. To me those words are a euphemism for friends and family. Recruiting your friends and family is a horrible way of starting a business because those that sign up are doing so for your benefit not their own. They don’t really want to be in business or buy a product, they do for  the sake of  their relationship to you, whether family or friend. They are probably just doing it for you if you approach them! Because of this fact, they will never become productive members of your downline. It may look good on your downline tree, but it will never make you any money.

Your “Inner Circle” can be become an  important part off your business but not as a result of your directly recruiting them. Instead, you should let them come to you and find out what you are doing. My entire family knows what I am doing online. I have been an online marker since 2001. I have never once gone up to one of them and let them know what I am doing. They have always come to me to find out what I am doing.

I quit my day job several years ago to work online. When my cousin asked me how work was, I told him I wouldn’t know, I don’t work there any more. It was then, and only then that I explained that I make my sole living by Marketing online.

Of course after I say I quit my job the conversation turns to where and what I am doing. I never go out of my way to inform any one in my family what I am doing for a living. If they ask, I tell. When I do, some of them even want to follow me. This is ok. It is of their own volition, not by by my influencing them in any way. My conScience is clear.

I simply tell them “listen, I don’t really want my friends and family doing what I am doing just because you feel obligated in some way, so just do me a favor, here is my business card and if you know of someone that might be interested, let them give me a call”.

Several of them have done that and this practice has resulted in several valuable contacts.  You can’t just let this group (family and friends) pass you by. There is a decent chance that they know some people that might turn into vital pieces of your downline.  There is no need to neglect them.

In conclusion, family and friends can be important to the life of your business. Just tell them what you do and how you do it when and if they ask. Tell them that you don’t really want family and friends in the business with you. If they do want to get involved, tell them that you only want them if they truly want to be part of it, and not just because they feel obligated because of your relationship with them. Tell them that if they know anyone who might be interested in what I do to give your card to them.  By doing that, your family and friends will end up asking you to allow them into your business and get involved for the right reasons.
